implementing an about box
(e.g) When in the system menu possibly replacing
the item called "about Ubuntu" with a dialog box showing:
0) a logo with a ubuntu slogan.
1) the version of ubuntu (e.g xubuntu kubuntu etc etc).
2) the revision number (9.10 etc)
with the current build number next to it.
3) the kernel that is runnung.
3b) basic info on current X driver loaded
4a) have a button on the bottom right, saying 'help'
4b) mabye display current ip address? (an afterthought i just appended to my brainstorm idea)
"Explanation of no 4a"
The button would bring the help box that displays info about ubuntu,
the process would look like Microsoft Winver.exe
but instead of a 'system information' button it would have one saying 'about ubuntu / cannonical')

other operating systems such as Apple's os7 - osx has "about this mac" which does similar to winver.exe
Microsoft winver started from windows 3.1
(or 1.x if i recall correctly)
They all stated which version of os was installed and build
(in Microsoft's case, the Service-Pack
"Windows nt3 / Windows 98 onwards" )
i think it would be great to implement such an idea, in a way that was(1) and has(2)
1) gui independent
2) possibly fewer dependencies as possible.
(except for calling the helper programs as needed for each gui e.g gnome / kde / etc)
it would help a lot of people,
1) from newbies wandering about clicking things to see what they say/do,
2) to sysadmins to checking which kernel was started
(and if the x driver actually loaded, and didn't default to vesa,
and also if thier connected to lan/wireless/
