VPN out-of-box experience in lucid

historically ubuntu did not support vpn plugins for network manager officially as the upstream support status is unclear.
However, vpn support is quite essential and we should investigate how to provide a more out-of-the-box user experience.
At least pptp needs to be available by default as there seem to be countries (like russia) where most dsl providers require the vpn pptp plugin in order to go online at all.

Whiteboard
It's worth noting that openvpn is in main and is the VPN solution we generally refer people to in #ubuntu-server. It would be great if the Ubuntu desktop integrated well with this. - SorenHansen 2009-11-11.
